Rexin Sheets for Book Binding
Rexin is the glossy leatherette used for the hard covers of black binding books — project reports, thesis volumes, registers and account books. It is what gives a bound book its firm, wipe-clean outer surface, and what gold foil is embossed onto for the title.

Black is the standard for project and thesis binding. Colour rexin is used where a department or institution specifies its own cover shade, or for presentation copies.
What else a bound book needs
Rexin on its own does not finish a book. A typical black binding job uses four materials together:
- Rexin sheet — the outer cover.
- Golden foil — imported roll, ₹899. Heat-stamped through the foil so the title and institution name sit raised in gold on the rexin.
- A3 gumming sheets — 500 pieces, ₹2,600. Bonds the rexin to the board without the wrinkling you get from brushed glue.
- Metal corners — 100 pieces, ₹190. Protect the corners, which is where a bound book fails first in a bag.
How rexin binding is done
- Cut the board slightly larger than the page block on three sides.
- Apply gumming to the board, then lay the rexin down from the centre outward so no air is trapped under the glossy face.
- Turn the edges over the board and press flat; mitre the corners so they do not bunch.
- Emboss the title with golden foil and a heated die. Foil is heat-and-pressure sensitive — too cool and it will not release, too hot and it spreads past the die edge.
- Fit metal corners last, after the cover is fully dry.
Rexin binding cost
At ₹4,200 for 100 sheets, the rexin works out to a predictable per-cover cost before board, foil, gumming and corners — divide the pack price by 100 and you have your cover material cost per book. Buying the four materials together rather than piecemeal is what keeps a per-book cost predictable when you are quoting a college or office for a batch.
